AIG Lays Off 60 in Birmingham Office

09 Jan 2016 Staff Writer

AIG Financial reportedly had layoffs in its Birmingham office yesterday as part of a nationwide restructuring. About 60 people in the Birmingham office were let go and over 3,000 nationally.

AIG Corporate provided the following statement yesterday:

On January 7, we restructured our AIG Financial Network (AIGFN) business by moving certain AIGFN financial professionals to AIG Partners Group, our distribution channel for independent agencies that work with a small number of insurance carriers.

Unfortunately this involved staff reductions at AIGFN locations throughout the U.S. While difficult, we strongly believe that these adjustments are critical to AIG’s overall strategic direction and simplified business model to ensure efficient resource allocation going forward. We are committed to delivering innovative insurance products and excellence in service as we strive to become our clients most valued insurer. And we are committed to treating all AIG employees with dignity and respect. AIGFN is one of our life distribution channels. We are not commenting on the size of the layoffs involved."
