The workshop, part of the Team Up initiative pioneered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Institute of Child Nutrition, is taking place Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Montgomery Renaissance Hotel.
Alabama elected to invest in this optional training as part of its ongoing commitment to provide schools the support and resources they need to succeed and advance the health and wellbeing of children across the state. The workshop will be led by The Institute of Child Nutrition’s trainer, Keith Rushing, PhD, RD. Representatives from the USDA Food and Nutrition Services national and regional offices will also be in attendance.
The ALSDE Child Nutrition Program is pleased to partner with multiple allied organizations to help make this workshop a success. Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Alabama Department of Public Health, Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and PE are coming together in support of this collaborative effort.
Team Up trainings use a mentor-based model to cover topics like menu planning, financial management, procurement, and strategies to reduce plate waste. Participants have the opportunity to learn from each other and develop an individualized action plan with goals and next steps for their individual programs.
Team Up is one of many ways the ALSDE Child Nutrition Program, in collaboration with USDA and other partners, empowers school nutrition professionals, providing them with the individualized tools they need to administer sustainable, nutritious meal programs. The agency also provides additional training and support to Local Education Agencies throughout the year.
USDA and ICN previously hosted seven regional Team Up workshops across the United States, and based on the overwhelming positive feedback received, additional trainings are now offered at the state agency level.
