Exciting Weekend at the Birmingham Zoo La Celebración on Saturday, PikaZOO on Sunday

The Birmingham Zoo is gearing up for an exciting weekend of special events at the Zoo. On Saturday, September 24, guests are invited to celebrate the culture of Birmingham’s growing Hispanic and Latino community at La Celebración presented by Centro Legal – Abogados. Animals of Central and South America will be featured through bilingual keeper chats, animal encounters, and other activities throughout the Zoo.

Guests are invited to come and enjoy special enrichments for the animals, booths from the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Junior League of Birmingham Yummy Truck, music, a dance lesson and more. Guests can meet Dora the Explorer from 10am-2pm. This event is in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, but also a welcoming event for all parts of the Birmingham Community. It is included in admission for Zoo guests and is free to Zoo Members.

On Sunday, September 25, guests are invited to enjoy PikaZOO – A Pokémon Go event at the Birmingham Zoo from 4-7pm. Participants can enjoy 3 hours of lures at the Zoo’s 29 Pokéstops and battle one another at the Zoo’s 2 gyms. All Zoo pathways will be open, some animals will be on exhibit. A special Poké Express train ride will be offered for $1. Guests are invited to hop on the train and hatch poké eggs while you ride and catch Pokémon. Guests can charge their phones at the charging stations provided by Sun Charge Systems, Inc. and visit a special booth provided by 2nd and Charles. This event is $5 for admission.   

Approximately 900 animals of 230 species call the Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, zebras, rhinos and endangered species from six continents. The Birmingham Zoo is open daily from 9am to 5pm.  Regular admission is $16* for adults and $14* for senior citizens and military and $11* for children ages 2-12 (*Price not including tax). All Birmingham Zoo Members and children under two-years-old receive free admission.
