BIRMINGHAM, AL (Wednesday, March 21, 2018) – The 14th Annual MortgageBanc Chili Cook-Off was held on Saturday, March 3rd from 10:30 to 3:00 in the parking lot of Brookwood Village. This community event featured 146 teams competing for prizes such as People’s Choice, Most Team Spirit and Best Chili and raised $385,000 for The Exceptional Foundation programs. IBERIABANK took home the Grand Prize award. Over 15,000 people attended and teams traveled from as far as Chattanooga, TN and Atlanta, GA. The Exceptional Foundation provides social and recreational activities for individuals with special needs.

Attendees enjoyed decorated booths, live music, beer donated by Good People Brewing Co. and a variety of chili recipes. 50 local dignitaries gathered in the Adamson Ford judges’ room and selected the top winners. Other Cayenne level sponsors include Bellhops, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, Brasfield and Gorrie, Capstone Real Estate Investment, Charter Spectrum, Dale’s Seasoning, Drummond Co., Good People Brewing Co., Magic 96.5FM, Johnson Sterling, O’Sullivan Family Foundation, Spire, Surgical Care Affiliates, Tailgate Guys/PRE Event Resources, USGA Women’s Golf, Waste Management and Wind Creek Hospitality.

According to Tricia Kirk, President & CEO of The Exceptional Foundation, “Those who participated and attended the Chili Cook-Off woke up not realizing that they would be changing the lives of people with special needs.”

About The Exceptional Foundation

The Exceptional Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, is where mentally challenged individuals engage in social and recreational activities when at age 21 they can no longer find opportunities for social interaction within the school system and for school-age individuals during after school and summer hours. Proceeds from fundraising efforts provide three-fourths of the funds needed to ensure that The Exceptional Foundation participants are able to gather daily for social activities, take field trips and compete in sports.
