Homemade Grapico Ice Cream Featured

Homemade Grapico Ice Cream Hanson Watkins BPH

When I was growing up at the lake with my family, my grandmother always made ice cream.

There are fancy cooked creams and  whipped things in many ice cream recipes, but my absolute favorite was a light and almost fizzy ice cream that my Nanny made with store brand strawberry soda and condensed milk.

This recipe uses that same technique (which is dead easy) and a made in Alabama favorite, Grapico.   The little girls will adore the lilac color and the flavor is light and fun.

If grape isn’t your thing, then Coca Cola or any soda will work in this recipe.

The kids will love gathering around, adding salt and watching the ice cream machine turn. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, the old fashioned wooden ones (electric) can be found at Walmart for under $40.

Grapico Ice Cream

Two 16 oz Grapico sodas

Two 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

2 C whole milk

Ice – good supply either bagged or from a machine

Ice cream salt

Mix all ingredients together and pour into 4 qt. ice cream maker. Layer your ice and salt in two inch increments.

Freeze as directed

Place in freezer after finished to harden up (honestly, I can’t wait that long and usually eat it a bit mushy)
