UAB student-athletes continued to excel in the classroom after completing another outstanding academic fall semester.
Blazer student-athletes posted a 3.13 overall GPA, with 15 of 17 teams earning a team GPA of 3.0 or above. Seventeen current or former student-athletes earned their degrees this fall.
"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes, coaches and academic staff for the high standards we have in place to be successful in the classroom," said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "The academic success of our student-athletes is the highest priority within the department of athletics, and I believe these accomplishments reflect that. Our newest UAB graduates are well-prepared for the challenges they will face moving forward."
UAB’s men’s basketball team opened with a win in Conference USA and got its 17th-straight win at Bartow Arena this Sunday against Middle Tennessee, but it didn't come easily. The Blue Raiders held a 42-30 half time lead after leading for most of the first half, powered by Reggie Upshaw who finished with a game-high 21 points and 7 rebounds.
However, in the second half the Blazers chipped away at the Middle Tennessee lead paced by Robert Brown and Nick Norton who scored 14 points apiece. The Blazers finally took the lead with about 5 minutes to play on a pair of William Lee (10 points, 6 rebounds) free throws and finished the game strong for a final score of 78 - 67.
