Chinese Chicken Easiest Recipe Ever

This Chinese Chicken Recipe uses sweet and spicy brown sugar soy sauce to glaze delicate chopped chicken! Impressive yet simple for weeknight meals.  


– 1 pound chicken breast boneless, skinle – 2 tablespoons cornstarch – 2 tablespoons all purpose flour – 1 teaspoon garlic powder – 1/2 teaspoon onion powder – 1/4 teaspoon pepper – vegetable oil for cooking – thinly sliced scallions for garnish – sesame seeds for garnish For the sauce – 1 tablespoon vegetable oil – 2 cloves garlic minced – 1/4 cup soy sauce – 1 Cup light brown sugar packed – 1 & 1/2 teaspoons rice wine vinegar – 1/2 teaspoon black pepper


Cut chicken into 1-inch chunks. Add chicken, cornflour, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper to a bowl. Stir to coat all chicken pieces.  

Step 1

Pour oil up to ½ inch in a deep-sided skillet. Heat till heated on medium. Put half the chicken in the oil in a single layer, making sure no pieces contact.  

Step 2

Turn chicken pieces as needed to brown on all sides. This takes 5-7 minutes. Cook chicken to 165°F and place on a paper-towel-lined platter. 

Step 3

Cook and save the remaining chicken. Make the glaze while cooking the chicken. Place vegetable oil in a small saucepot on medium heat.  

Step 4

Add garlic and stir for 30 seconds until aromatic. After soy sauce, add brown sugar, vinegar, and pepper. Continue whisking until brown sugar is fully incorporated, then boil.  

Step 5

Cook the sauce until it thickens to a syrup consistency, about 10 minutes. Stir every minute to avoid burning. Sugar will bubble up when cooking, don't worry.  

Step 6

Take it off the heat until it dies down, then put it back on if it appears like it will overflow. Remove any remaining oil from the chicken skillet.  

Step 7

Put the chicken back in the pan over medium heat and glaze it. Coat chicken with glaze. Add sliced green onions and sesame seeds to steamed rice or your favourite sides.
