– 1 box (18.25 ounces) yellow cake mix – 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted – 3 large eggs, divided – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – 8 ounces cream cheese, softened – 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted – Additional powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Step 1

Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and reserve a 9x13-inch baking pan. Mix yellow cake mix, melted butter, egg, and vanilla essence in a large basin. Blend well. Thick mixture.

Step 2

Press cake mixture evenly into the baking pan bottom. This makes the Gooey Butter Cake's bottom layer. Mix cream cheese in another bowl until smooth. Mix in the remaining 2 eggs.

Step 3

Gradually whisk powdered sugar into cream cheese until smooth. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cake layer in the baking pan with a spatula.

Step 4

Bake for 40–45 minutes in the preheated oven until the rims are golden brown and the middle is firm but slightly sticky.

Step 5

Cool the cake on a wire rack in the pan after removing it from the oven. Powdered sugar can be sprinkled on the cake once it cools.

Step 6

Cut and serve squares. Enjoy this delicious dessert's melting butteriness!
