Easy Crispy Fried Green Beans Recipe

Our Fried Green Beans Recipe always turns out flawlessly in a simple beer batter! 


– 1 pound fresh green beans ends trimmed – 1 tablespoon cornstarch – 1 cup all-purpose flour – 1 teaspoon baking powder – 1 teaspoon granulated sugar – 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt plus more for sprinkling – 1 cup cold lager beer – 1 large egg well beaten – Peanut Oil for frying or vegetable oil – ranch for dipping optional


Heat 4 inches of oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottom skillet to 375°F. Toss cornstarch with green beans in a large bowl.  

Step 1

This helps batter stick to green beans. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt to make the batter. 

Step 2

Whisk in beer and beaten egg until smooth. Shake off excess cornstarch and add green beans to the batter. Dredge green beans in batter.  

Step 3

Let the extra batter drip off before adding each green bean to the hot oil. Shake the deep frying basket as you add them to avoid sticking. 

Step 4

If using a skillet, stir well to separate. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the fryer or skillet. Fry 4-5 minutes till golden brown.  

Step 5

Brown evenly on all sides by stirring occasionally. Drain the green beans on a paper-towel-lined platter.  

Step 6

Immediately after that, sprinkle extra salt on a wire rack that is placed over a sheet tray.   

Step 7

As a dipping sauce, offer the remaining green beans that have been fried with ranch.
