Lakers News: Darvin Ham A Finalist For Major NBA Honor

The NBA's Coach of the Month award for February went to Erik Spolestra (Miami Heat, Eastern Conference) and Steve Kerr (Golden State Warriors, Western Conference).

To add insult to injury, the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, Darvin Ham, has been selected as a finalist, despite the fact that his reputation has been unstable.

Ham led LA to a 9-3 February record, defeating the Celtics, Knicks, Pelicans, and Clippers. Kerr was honored for leading the Warriors to an 11-3 record during his remarkable month.

Ham has made significant improvements this season, finding solid rotational combinations, including a 9-3 starting lineup, and staying afloat when LeBron James/Anthony Davis are out.

He still needs work, especially after benching D'Angelo Russell for Cam Reddish in the 4th quarter, which likely cost LA the game against Denver on Saturday night.

Since Ham is only in his second year as a head coach, things are likely to keep getting better. With LeBron James in charge, the arrow should be going up for his play, which has been easy to criticize so far.

But with how good LA's offense has been as the season has gone on, it wouldn't be surprising if they had a run like they did last year.
