Onion Petals Easiest Recipe Ever

Outback dipping sauce on onion petals is irresistible. Sweet onion petals battered and deep fried to a crispy golden brown with bloom' sauce—need I say more?  

Ingredient

For the bloomin' sauce – 1/2 cup mayonnaise – 1/4 cup sour cream – 2 tablespoons ketchup – 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish – 1 clove garlic minced – 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt – 1/4 teaspoon black pepper – 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika – pinch cayenne pepper For the onion – 1 large sweet onion – 2 cups all-purpose flour – 2 teaspoons seasoned salt – 1/2 teaspoon black pepper – 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder – 1/2 teaspoon cayenne – 1/2 teaspoon onion powder – 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika – 1 cup buttermilk – 1 large egg – oil for frying

Introduction 

For the sauce, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, ketchup, horseradish, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne until smooth. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate until serving.  

Step 1

For onions Cut the onion root and remove the peel. Cut the onion in half, then fourths. Cut the wedges again in half and set aside.  

Step 2

Mix flour, seasoned salt, black pepper, garlic powder, cayenne, onion powder, and smoked paprika in a large basin. Mix buttermilk and egg in another medium bowl.  

Step 3

Put onion petals in a gallon zip bag. Add ¼ cup of flour mixture to the bag. Toss onion petals in flour and seal bag. Tap flour from a handful of petals at a time. 

Step 4

Dip them in buttermilk. Let excess trickle. Add the petals to the flour mixture and coat well, tapping off excess. Coat the remaining petals on a parchment-lined sheet tray.  

Step 5

With 2 inches of oil, heat a deep fryer or big skillet with deep sides to 350°F. Heat and dry onion petals for 3–4 minutes till golden brown. Fried petals absorb oil on a paper towel-lined dish.  

Step 6

Avoid sogginess by placing them on a wire rack over a sheet tray while frying the remaining petals. Enjoy cooked petals with sauce.
