Introduction
Heat the oven to 350°F. To prepare, line a 9x13 baking dish with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Melt cut butter in a big pot or dutch oven over medium-low heat.
Step 1
Break the chocolate bar into squares and add them to the pot. Stir occasionally to melt the chocolate and butter.
Step 2
Remove from heat and whisk in sugar until smooth. Add each egg and whisk thoroughly before adding the next. Whisk in salt and vanilla.
Step 3
Mix in the flour until no dry spots remain. Pour into baking dish. Bake for 35–38 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
Step 4
Place on wire rack to cool completely. Make the topping when the brownies cool. In a medium saucepot, combine sugar, evaporated milk, butter, and egg yolks.
Step 5
Heat medium-low and mix. Stir occasionally to melt butter. Mix the liquid occasionally as it simmers to avoid sticking. Simmer and thicken for 12 minutes, then remove from heat.
Step 6
Add coconut, pecans, and vanilla. Stir. Stir for 5 minutes to thicken and spread. Smooth brownie frosting. Let it cool completely. If using, cut bars and sprinkle melted chocolate. Serve now.
