Hazelnut Mocha Brownies Recipe

Coffee and hazelnuts complement the chocolate in these Hazelnut Mocha Brownies. They're captivating!


– 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter – 2 ounces (58g) unsweetened chocolate, roughly chopped – 1 & 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar – 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons (31g) unsweetened natural cocoa powder – 3 large egg – 3 tablespoons (45ml) brewed espresso or strong coffee – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – 1/2 teaspoon salt – 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour – 1 cup (175g) chopped hazelnuts, toasted


Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare a 9-inch square baking pan. Put chocolate and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. 

Step 2

Half-power microwave in 30-second intervals until butter and chocolate melt when swirled. Stir smooth. Let cool slightly.

Step 3

Beat sugar, cocoa powder, eggs, espresso, vanilla, and salt with a medium-speed electric mixer until mixed. Mix in the cooled chocolate mixture.

Step 4

Lower mixer speed. Stir in the flour until mixed. Mix in hazelnuts.

Step 5

Place batter in pan and spread evenly. Bake 35–40 minutes until a pick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Let cool in pan before cutting into bars.
