Sixers News: Tyrese Maxey Remains in NBA Concussion Protocol

It is possible that Tyrese Maxey will not play in the game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks, which would be his fourth game missed.

Tyrese Maxey has been injured for about a week. Maxey departed last Sunday's game against the Dallas Mavericks to be tested for a concussion after banging his head on a defender's leg.

In the beginning, Maxey was given permission to come back into the game. He finished the team's triumph over the Mavericks without suffering any significant losses.

On Tuesday, Maxey began to experience symptoms that were consistent with having suffered a concussion.

Before the game against the Brooklyn Nets, the Sixers lowered Maxey's playing status from available to out. This was done in preparation for the game.

At the same time, they sent him back to Philadelphia to recuperate and rest. Maxey was subsequently placed in the concussion protocol of the National Basketball Association (NBA) at that point in time.

The Sixers couldn't say for sure when Maxey would be able to play again. Taking things one day at a time, they first told him he couldn't play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Maxey couldn't play in Friday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans because he was hurt for the third straight game.

While there were indications that Maxey was moving in the right way towards returning, there were also encouraging signs.

Following the shootaround that took place in Philadelphia on Friday morning, Maxey engaged in a workout session performed by himself.

Later, the experienced guard was seen working out before the game. He's still waiting to be cleared from the concussion procedure on Saturday, which is a shame.

According to Noah Levick and Nick Nurse of Philadelphia, the guard is "progressing well" but has not yet been given the all-clear to return to work until further notice.

Despite the fact that Maxey was able to work on his game after the practice session, there are still questions over his ability to play in the game that will take place on Sunday against the New York Knicks.
