In the autumn of 2022, Turner received the news that he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. In an Instagram post published on Sunday, his band made the announcement of his passing and stated that he “fought every day” after receiving the diagnosis.

According to the band, “If you had the privilege of knowing Brit on any level, you know he was the most caring, empathetic, driven, and endearing person one could ever hope to meet,” the band captioned a graphic that featured a picture of Turner wearing a blue hat and sunglasses. “Brit was Blackberry Smoke’s True North, the compass that instituted the ideology that will continue to guide this band.”

USA TODAY has attempted to get in touch with Blackberry Smoke as well as Rounder Records, the band’s record label.

According to estimates provided by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, glioblastoma is a brain tumour that is both aggressive and rapidly expanding. As a general rule, the cancer is more prevalent in men and older persons.
