After performing a check at the border, law authorities discovered child pornography among the electronic devices belonging to Arvin Joseph Mirasol of the United States. According to an affidavit that was signed by HSI special agent Michelle Maglione, the search was initiated after the cruise line informed Homeland Security Investigations, Customs and Border Protection, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office on February 26 that an employee on its Symphony of the Seas ship had concealed a camera in the restrooms of the guests.

“During the examination of his USB Stick device, law enforcement discovered numerous videos of naked females undressing in the bathroom as well as videos of child pornography,” the paper stated. Both of these videos were considered to be pornographic.

According to the affidavit, Mirasol, who is 34 years old, was observed performing the installation of a camera in a stateroom bathroom in one of the videos. Following this, the video shows a young girl who appears to be ten years old disrobing and getting into the shower by herself.

According to the affidavit that was submitted to the Southern District of Florida, the crew member, who is originally from the Philippines, “admitted to taping a video camera in the bathrooms of the guests that he worked as a stateroom attendant.”

According to the document, Mirasol disclosed that he has been installing these cameras in the restroom ever since he began working on Symphony of the Seas around the month of December 2023. The statement that Mirasol made was, “I want to control it, but I can’t.”

When questioned by law enforcement about the process by which he chose which cabin to install the camera, he responded by saying, “If I like who is in that room, I place it.” Additionally, he mentioned that he would select females who were approximately 16 years old or older, despite the fact that he was aware that recording children was against the law.

In addition, Mirasol said that he sneaked inside cabins while passengers were taking showers and made sexual videos of them with his mobile phone while he was hiding beneath the bed.

In addition to being charged with six charges of video voyeurism in the state of Florida, he is also accused of producing child pornography and possessing child pornography.

“We have zero tolerance for this unacceptable behavior,” the parent company of the line, Royal Caribbean Group, said in a statement that was emailed to USA TODAY. “We immediately reported this to law enforcement and terminated the crew member, and we will continue to cooperate fully with authorities,” the statement reads. One of Mirasol’s attorneys declined to comment on the matter.

Two employees of Disney Cruise Line were taken into custody in January on allegations of child pornography, and this news comes after their arrest.
