Kyrsten Sinema announces she will not run for reelection, ending months of speculation:-IN WASHINGTON – Tuesday afternoon, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., said she would not run for reelection. This ended months of rumors that she would run for the Arizona Senate and make the election more complicated by having three candidates.

“Because I choose good manners, understanding, listening, and working together to get things done,” Sinema said in a video on X, which used to be Twitter. “At the end of this year, I will leave the Senate.”

Sinema said she was leaving the Senate because of how divided Congress had become. The Arizona Independent, who used to be a Democrat, often got in trouble with her fellow Democrats for blocking important party goals, like President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better plan, which would have made major changes to social safety programs and put a lot of money into infrastructure.

“I think my way is right. “But right now, that’s not what America wants,” Sinema said in her speech.

Sinema was seen as a dealmaker in the upper house because she held views in the middle. Biden’s Build Back Better plan was shot down by Sinema and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., a moderate who is also retiring. However, the Senate still passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which included some of the plan’s goals.

In her announcement video, Sinema talked about bills that have support from both parties. These included the bipartisan building law and the CHIPS and Science Act. Sinema was most recently part of a small group of bipartisan Senate officials who released a broad emergency foreign aid deal that would have changed border and migrant policy in a big way.

The choice made by Sinema is likely good news for Democrats who want to keep the Senate. The top Democrats running for Sinema’s seat, which is up for reelection this year, are Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) and Kari Lake (R), a conservative hardliner.

If Sinema had decided to run for reelection, there would have been a very messy and first-of-its-kind three-way race in Arizona.

Gallego said in a statement after Sinema’s announcement, “I want to thank Senator Sinema for her nearly two decades of service to our state.” He also said he hoped Sinema would join him in rejecting “Kari Lake and her dangerous positions.”

Lake wrote on X, “Senator Sinema had the guts to stand up to the Far-Left.” “The people of Arizona will not be fooled by Gallego. I will speak up for EVERY Arizonan. I hope everything goes well for Senator Sinema in her next job.

This is an ongoing story that will be updated as things happen.
