President Biden says he would sign bill that could ban TikTok in the US:-It is Washington. On Friday, Vice President Joe Biden announced that he will sign legislation that is now floating through Congress and has the potential to result in TikTok being outlawed in the United States.
“If they pass it, I’ll sign it,” Biden said at a press conference on Friday.

On Thursday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted unanimously to forward a bill that would prevent the immensely popular app TikTok from being accessed by web hosting services and app stores based in the United States. This would be the case unless TikTok severed its ties with its parent company, ByteDance, which is based in Beijing, within a period of one hundred eighty days.
The legislation will next be brought to the entire House of Representatives for consideration.
TikTok, which is used by more than 170 million people in the United States, has come under attention in Washington due to worries that the Chinese government could use the app to obtain access to private user data or propagate falsehoods.
The company TikTok is vehemently opposed to the measure, arguing that it would provide ByteDance with an insufficient amount of time to locate a buyer that had the finances necessary to purchase TikTok and to solve the technical problems that are involved in spinning it off. Taxpayers have been inundated with phone calls from TikTok users who are angry and want them to oppose the platform.

“This bill is an outright ban of TikTok, regardless of how much the authors try to disguise it,” TikTok said in a statement that was sent out via email. “This legislation will trample the First Amendment rights of 170 million Americans and deprive 5 million small businesses of a platform they rely on to grow and create jobs.”
Wednesday was the day when the White House gave its approval to the law, and Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for the White House, referred to it as a “important” progression.
Jean-Pierre stated that they do not consider this to be a ban on TikTok, but rather a means of ensuring that their ownership is not in the hands of individuals who could potentially cause us harm.
Last year, the government of Vice President Joe Biden urged that the Chinese owners of TikTok sell their stakes or face the possibility of being banned. Additionally, it supported Senate legislation that would have provided the White House with additional authority to prohibit TikTok and other apps headquartered in other countries that pose a threat to national security; however, the bill was never put to a vote from the Senate.
Recently, however, the reelection campaign of Vice President Joe Biden joined the app in an effort to appeal to younger people.
