Tyronn Lue Confirms Doc Rivers Told Him Clippers’ James Harden Trade Was ’No-Brainer’: Doc Rivers, the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, has indicated in the past that the Los Angeles Clippers consulted him before to making the decision to trade for James Harden in a blockbuster deal with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this season.
- Tyronn Lue, the head coach of the Clippers, revealed on Monday night, following the Clippers’ loss to the Bucks, that Rivers was a factor in Harden’s decision to move to Los Angeles.
- Lue was questioned about his communication with Rivers, who was not coaching at the time, prior to the Harden trade during the news conference that he had after the game.

Lue praised Harden for his willingness to make sacrifices in order to win, pointing out that he frequently runs pick and rolls in order to find open looks for his star teammates Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
Rivers, of course, was Harden’s coach on the 76ers from 2021 to 2023, so it is not surprising that Lue would want to hear Rivers’ thoughts on the 10-time All-Star player.
